Recently I was planning on taking my dad to Silverstone for the British GP as a birthday present and to say thanks for all the support he has given me over the years. I had it all worked out, prices for tickets, accomodation travel etc. Then, next thing I know, from nowhere, BAM, Im made redundant. Luckily I hadnt mentioned it to dad, I was keeping it on the down low as a surprise which was a good thing because it looks like I cant afford it now. I was completely gutted, I really wanted him to see, hear and feel the experience of a GP.

Now imagine my excitement when I discover that of all the teams in the Championship, one of them is coming to our home city, Belfast and that team is Red Bull. I couldnt believe it at first, I had to read the article several times, making sure that I had read correctly that it was Belfast, in Northern Ireland, and that it was not one of those instances where you read what you want it to say lol.

I may not be able to afford to take my dad to a GP now, but thanks to Red Bull and their showcar, we can at least see and experience an F1 car up close in our home town. We are really looking forward to seeing the car and its pilot, The Flying Scotsman DC this weekend, surely to be one of the biggest highlights of the year. I'm just hoping and praying that we get a good day for the event and the sun is shining.

It also fills the gap nicely between the Bahrain and OZ GP's

Thank you Red Bull

Thanks for the info STR3, I'll keep that in mind. Yeah it was the £2500 package I was hoping to get (paddock club or something), hence it was going to take all my wages and savings right up to the day of the grand prix to be able to afford it. We may still go, (just opt for cheaper tickets nearer the time), but if the racing doesnt improve im not sure it would even be worth it lol.

thanks for all the feedback guys, appreciate it. Only one more day to wait, I'll share the pics if i get any good ones, photography is a bit of a hoby of mine but i have not had the camera out in a while. who knows we might still get to silverstone, depending on how the job hunt goes, I was going to get the package that had the pit walk, may just go for a cheaper package when the time comes ... we shall have to wait and see lol.

Sorry you couldn't go to Silverstone, but it's great how you're so positive! Hope you have fun at the parade!

Shame you and your Dad can no longer go. We normally go to Silverstone, but can't this year due to it being one of our party's 40h Birthday party, plus the World Cup Final that day. We're off to Turkey instead. Tickets are very cheap, and this is cheap accomodation to be found too - so its probably costing us less to go there than Silverstone would have been.

Love your optimism and seeing good in a difficult time. I hope job prospects pick up soon, I know it's a tough time at the moment. And your delighted reaction must be a really thrill for the RBR guys who have organised the show car run. I imagine it's just why they do these things.

Sorry to hear that you can't take your dad to Silverstone, as you would of really enjoyed it i have not been myself since 06 as they put up the prices to much, but as i live only 2miles away i can still hear them lol. But make sure you get there early in Belfast as there will be lots of people there as i have been to 1 myself and they are good, so you will really enjoy it and don't forget the camera and you have to be fast with that but worth it.So hope you and your dad have a good time :-)

It was a nice gesture wanting to take your dad to Silverstone, so sorry that you can't anymore now. I guess we make it difficult for ourselves, being fans of F1, as it's not really the most accesible sport for the common people. It probably doesn't help you much, but I'd say: you're not the only one, not much relief to find in there, I know. But at least you've got RBR coming to Belfast. I have to settle for Renault's showcar :-(

Sorry to hear you're no longer able to go to Silverstone. But that's great you get to see the parade. I hope you enjoy the day and we'll look forward to seeing the pictures.

Sorry to hear you couldn't take your Dad to a race but it will be an amazing experience at the parade. It's good that the team bring the show car to place that don't have the chance to see F1 and I'm glad you got a nice surprise. Enjoy the show and make sure you take lots of pictures and share them with us :)
