No VIP, no glamour, no celebrity for me at Silverstone and unlike some of my fellow Red Bull Community gals watching around the globe, no pretty dress and heels. In fact after 3 days camping my look was more tramp than chic, but here I was Turn 1, Copse corner in perfect English summer sunshine for my first British Grand Prix!

With the excellent Red Arrows display team now nothing more than distant specs on the horizon it was time for the incredible Red Bulls.

My usual pre race nerves were heightened by the deafening, sexy sound of 24 F1 engines performing practice starts right in front of me, on their way round to the grid.

As the lights changed red to green, around me a sea of McLaren silver and orange erupted into a wave of cheers, air horns and vuvuselas; incredible atmosphere and as Mark Webber, from 2nd on the grid muscled his way to first I jumped to my feet and yelled;

“Yes, yes! Go Mark!!”

The dream start for my Aussie hero but then another wave of cheers told us Sebastian had had less good fortune and a puncture forced him wide and my fellow Brits around me got their wish. Hamilton benefiting, moving into 2nd From here on it became two races for me;

In one I was constantly marking off Webber’s laps as he stormed down the pit straight and round Copse time after time, each time stretching away from the McLaren.

In the other is was at first hoping Sebastian could continue, then after the Safety Car, seeing him eat his way up the field from stone dead last to a very creditable 7th.

Never has a race seemed so long and at times I had to remind myself to try and enjoy the Grand Prix as a whole; seeing Ferrari, Lotus, Renault, Mercedes fly past but always thinking about our two fighting Bulls.

By the chequered flag I was on my feet again, cheering like crazy for a Red Bull win.

A perfect weekend of racing, camping, sun, fun and walking for miles round the circuit, that left me tired and elated but with blisters nearly as big as the mighty Aussie Grit’s balls!

Fab blog :) Really brought it all back reading this again. What made me laugh at the time was the number of McLaren fans strutting about all weekend in their orange victory tops. A bit presumptious I though ;) Oh how I loved cheering and applauding Marks's win in among them all in the stand on Sunday!!

Thanks for the responses. I woke up this morning wondering why my lips are so sore... looks like I was really biting hard with nerves yesterday.

Great night Thursday, met the lovely fidgety_Jen and Petrolhead, the food was delicious (can recommend The Stag to anyone) and Mark was charming, forthright (!!) and very generous with his time, despite obviously wanting his dinner!

I embarrassed myself by weeping for about 10 minutes after Mark won. It was SO awesome. About to watch the BBC F1 Forum on iplayer. How was the do on Thurs? ;)
