Sebastian Vettel got Red Bull's season up and running with pole position in Bahrain. It looked as though Red Bull were just off the pace of Ferrari and Mclaren after the practice sessions but Vettel managed to take pole, beating Felipe Massa by 0.141 seconds, with the second Ferrari of Fernando Alonso in third.
Mark Webber took 6th in the other Red Bull Racing while Buemi and Alguersuari finished 15th and 18th for Toro Rosso.
Q1 saw Alonso setting quickest time for Ferrari with Vettel in second place. All 6 drivers from the new teams struggled for pace and were destined to drop out for the next session. This left one place left, and it looked like it would be one of the Sauber drivers until Kobayashi and De La Rosa improved their lap times. This left Alguersuari in the drop zone and a mistake on his hot lap saw him fail to make the cut into Q2.
Q2 saw the Red Bull's fly with Vettel and Webber setting the 1st and 3rd quickest times. Unfortunately the Toro Rosso didn't have the pace to get Buemi any further into qualifying and he failed to make the cut into Q3 in 15th place.
Q3 saw Vettel strong again setting quick lap times. It looked like the pole position would be between Seb and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso. Sebastian put in a fantastic lap going 0.9 faster than the current pole time. As other drivers came across the line it was a waiting game to see if he had done it. Alonso missed out on going faster and Massa then took the position from him to finish 2nd just 0.141 behind Vettel's fastest time, Webber crossed the line a further second behind to take 6th place.
It was a perfect start for Vettel's title challenge and he'll be hoping to translate the pole position into victory tomorrow.
